The Structure Of the Earths Interior
- In the center of the Earth is CORE. It is basicaly a large shere of metal, which is mostly Iron. An interesting feature about the core is that, with depth, pressure and also temperature increases. There are 2 parts in the core. The INNER CORE and the OUTER CORE. The INNER CORE is extremly hot abd high pressured, which is why it is basically solid metal. The OUTER CORE is liquid flowing iron, and produces the earths magnetic field.
- Above the Earths core is the Earths MANTLE. The MANTLE is a thick layer of solid rock. It is made up of Iron and Magnesium and denser than the crust which we will talk about in a bit
- The MANTLE consists of 3 parts. The MESOSPHERE, which is stiff and is just above the core. Above that is the ASTHENOSPHERE which is soft and has the ability to flow. Then, right below the crust, we have the LITHOSPHERE which is a relatively cool (temperature wise), rigid rock.
